Gerald E. “Jerry” Wells, 75, of Shelby, died unexpectedly Thursday morning, Sept. 15, 2016 at his home.
Jerry was born Aug. 21, 1941 in Marion, the son of the late Ernest E. and Goldie (Gilbert) Wells. He was a 1960 graduate of Shelby Senior High School and then attended Mansfield Business College for two years earning a certificate.
For 30 years Jerry drove a propane truck. Since 1998, he had his own business setting large propane tanks for farmers. Jerry was currently driving for the Mennonite community where he met and made many friends who gave him the nickname, “Windy.”
Jerry loved to watch trains and play cards, most recently at the Shelby Community and Senior Center. He attended Shiloh United Methodist Church. With Jerry around there was never a dull moment.
Jerry is survived by his three children: Ernie (Amy) Wells, of Willard, Stephanie (Greg) Mulvane, of Norwalk, and Julie Wells, of Columbus; a sister, Patricia Sue Wells, of North Carolina; and a special friend, Peggy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his first wife, Dixie Irene Wells in 1998; his second wife: Carrie E. Wells in 2015; 1 sister: Barbara Nelson; and a granddaughter: Erica Wells.
Family and friends are welcome on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016 from 2 to 5 pm at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 W. Main St., Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:30 am. Pastor John Grimm will officiate and burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Shiloh.
