Katie Mae Pipkins, 89, passed this life on Friday, Sept. 9, 2016 at the home of her daughter Patricia.
Mrs. Pipkins was born on Thursday, Sept. 8, 1927 to the late Calvin and Emma (Ball) Owens in Birmingham, Alabama and had lived in Mansfield the past 64 years. Formerly of Bentley Street, Ms. Katie retired from the Tappan Company and was a member of the Faith Temple Church Of God In Christ.
She loved her church, reading her Bible, singing, and playing her tambourine, and watching NBA and WNBA basketball.
Ms. Katie is survived by her four children: Patricia Bradley-Rooks, and Johnny Lawrence, Mansfield, Emma (Odell) Suber and Sadie Pipkins-Boone, Columbus; 16 grandchildren: Jacques, John and Jeffrey Lawrence, Michelle Johnson, Del-Jean (Julian) Steele, Shardel Suber, Ronald, Katie, and Kelli Boone, Kimberly (Dante) Freeman, Henry (Sherry), III, Marvis (Veronica), Chrisala, Hendrick, Atricia Bradley, and Lisa (Sylvester) Chatman, 24 great-grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents Katie was also preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Homegoing services will be held Friday, at 11 a.m. in the Faith Temple COGIC by her pastor Elder William Jordan, Jr. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m.
Interment will be in Mansfield Cemetery.
