Whether it was his customer service, community service or his golf game, Vic Pfizenmayer “shot for the pin.” Blessed with a strong ability to detect right from wrong, his loyalty to his insurance clients, and his compassion for the Mansfield community, Vic built a fellowship of friends who appreciated his honesty and strong values. Though life’s sand traps are filled with magnets, Vic was a “straight-shooter.”
Vic passed away Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016 in OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. He was 74.
Born Victor Charles Pfizenmayer on Feb. 28, 1942 in Mansfield to parents Victor Carl and Rebecca (Cline) Pfizenmayer, he graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1960. He earned his B.S. in Education from Wittenberg University in 1964, was a member of Beta Theta Pi and was inducted in the Hall of Fame for playing baseball. He played semi-pro baseball on Mansfield’s Farmer’s Bank team and did his masters education studies in Secondary Education at Ashland University.
His first teaching position would chart his life. His position at Hedges Elementary School in Mansfield teaching physical education placed him with a lovely 4th grade teacher Monya Mosberg. The students eagerly acted the cupids and the two were married Aug. 21, 1965.
Vic went on to teach phys. ed., health and geography for 10 years at Mansfield Senior High School, where he moved from assistant varsity basketball coach to head basketball coach.
He moved to Ontario High School to teach and coach for four more years before he was recruited by State Farm Insurance to operate a local agency.
For 35 years Vic was the face of State Farm Insurance to many Mansfielders, renowned for his compassion, and trust.
Vic was an active member of First Congregational Church, Mansfield Liederkranz, University Club and the Shelby Country Club. Vic annually volunteered for the Ohio Special Olympics, and served as a coach for his sons’ Lexington Little Leagues and umpired for Mansfield Southwest Little League.
An avid golfer, Vic’s hole-in-one came on the Vines Country Club in Ft. Myers, Florida.
Vic could not tolerate folks with no ethics.
His family was his priority, and Vic leaves them a legacy of community involvement, kindness and loyalty.
He is survived by his loving wife Monya Pfizenmayer, of Mansfield; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Marc and Lisa Pfizenmayer, of Lexington, and Stephen (fiancée Carey Gongwer) Pfizenmayer, of Mansfield; grandchildren Logan, Lauren, Sarah, and Olivia; brother and sister-in-law Tom and Linda Pfizenmayer, of Lexington; niece Liz Pfizenmayer, of Charleston, South Carolina; his cats Samuel and Sibby; along with a large circle of friends.
The Pfizenmayer family will receive friends Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016 from 1 to 6 p.m. in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, 350 Marion Avenue. His memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home led by Pastor Bruce Haapalainen, Chaplain Mark Lovely and Celebrant Dave Roberts.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to First Congregational Church may be made at the funeral home.
