Forever in our hearts in whatever we do; A look down from heaven…Mom, it’s you. We know you were proud of us living each day; To our lives and your children you were ready to say, “A job well done” with a card or a note in the mail, or a phone call always without fail. A “poohoo” call meant pay attention to me…Now she’s in heaven totally free. We will miss you Mom, gone too soon, Someday, we’ll be together forever and together we’ll stay.
Shirley J. Griesbach, 85, of Mansfield, passed away late Wednesday evening, September 7, 2016, at Wedgewood Estates. She was born March 31, 1931, in Galion, Ohio, to the late Dorance J. and Nellie (Frank) Hill.
Shirley graduated in 1949 from Mansfield Senior High School where she was a cheerleader for several years. Her giving spirit was evident in the volunteer work she performed as a candy striper and visiting people at area nursing homes. As if her presence alone couldn’t bring a smile, Shirley attended a pro clown college to bring an extra dose of humor to others. She lived to make others laugh and always had a smile on her face.
Multi-talented and creative, she enjoyed painting, drawing and designed personalized birthday cards for friends and family. A bit of a prankster, you never quite knew what was inside that special envelope. Her family was most important to Shirley and she showered her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will love and affection. They will always remember her patient and giving demeanor along with that beautiful smile.
Shirley attended Woodville Grace Brethren Church and Berean Baptist Church where she made many friends. Her love and caring also extended to her feline friends. She enjoyed spending time at Lake Erie and sampling her favorite treat- ICE CREAM-as often as possible.
Left to remember all the magical times are her four children, Cheryl Wynn, Michael Griesbach (Debbie Lape) of Mansfield, Daniel (Ann) Griesbach of Bellville and Richard (Barbara) Griesbach of Marblehead; eight grandchildren, Philip (Sook) Wynn of South Korea, Robyn Pitney of CO, Joseph (Sarha) Griesbach of Mansfield, James Griesbach of Lexington, Brian (Heather) Griesbach of Lynnwood, WA, Mark Griesbach (Katie Stafford) of Mansfield and Gretta and Ella Griesbach, both of Marblehead; and four great-grandchildren, Taryn, Ava, Anya, and Jake. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Eugene W. Griesbach on March 28, 2010; and brother, Kenneth Hill.
The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, September 11, 2016, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Rev. Dr. Gary Wilson of Mayflower Congregational Church will conduct the memorial service which follows at 3 p.m. Private burial will be held in Mansfield Memorial Park. Honoring Shirley’s love of cats, memorial contributions may be made to S.T.O.P. or the Humane Society of Richland County.
