Jackie L. Bond

Jackie L. Bond, 75, of Mansfield, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016.

He was born on May 5, 1941 to Theodore and Wanda (Riley) Bond in Olive Hill, Kentucky.

Jack was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, co-worker, and friend. Jack lived every day to its fullest. His favorite thing in life was spending time with family and friends while enjoying a good pot of coffee. He also loved riding his horses, fishing, hunting, bluegrass music, traveling, frying fish for Nettie, Jay, Di, Todd, Sherri, and (Sunshine #1), sharing stories about his childhood on Garvin Ridge, and being with Zoe.

Cooking and hosting dinners at his Kentucky home was another one of his favorite things, and everyone was welcome! Jack loved helping others and had a heart of gold. His smile could light a room and his love was unconditional. Jack never complained and was always “Kentucky Tough.” He loved the Lord, always thanked God for his blessings, and was ready to go home. Jack made the world a better place and his love and kindness will live on forever.

Jack loved his job as a carpenter at General Motors, where he worked for 32 years. After retirement, he enjoyed building and remodeling houses for several years. He was also a member of UAW Local 549.

Jack is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nettie L. (Jessee) Bond; son, Jackie (DiAnn) Bond Jr.; daughter, Sherri (Todd) Metzger; granddaughter, Zoe Annette Metzger; brothers, Roger Bond, and Lester (Rebecca) Bond; sisters, Virgie (Caroll) Barker, Mary Opal Conn, Judy (Leroy) Stone, and Betty (Roger) Bailey; sister-in-law, Rita Hill; brothers-in-law, Lewis Stigall, Hank Stricklin, Fred Rumery; and a life long friend, Gary Hicks.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles, Phillip, Danny, and Elmer Bond; and sisters, Zelma, Rema, Stella, and Esta.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 21, 2016 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington Springmill Rd., Ontario. A funeral service, officiated by Pastor J.C. Bond, will be held on Monday, Aug. 22, 2016 at 11 a.m. at First Wesleyan Church, with an additional hour of visitation prior to the service.

Burial will follow at Windsor Park Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the ALS Foundation.
