Always smiling, ready to help, John Setser left this earth for his heavenly home on his 67th birthday (Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016) from OhioHealth Hospital in Mansfield.

Known for his humor, his crazy sayings, and his unselfish love, John leaves his family a legacy of wonderful memories.

He was born Aug. 10, 1949 in Perrysville to parents Elbert & Edna (Spears) Setser. He proudly served his country by joining the U.S. Navy. In 1970, a trip to the supermarket brought him face to face with the love of his life, Twila Mays. The couple soon married on Nov. 21, 1970 and they were blessed with three children: Heidi, John, and Ryan.

He retired from Hi-Stat Mfg. in Lexington in 2014 and had previously worked for Flexible Corp. in Loudonville for 25 years. John attended Church of God on Trimble Road in Mansfield.

In spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and had a gift for building everything from apple crates to an entire house! He took a special fly fishing trip to Alaska with his son and took his wife on a whirlwind roadtrip out West to see almost every American landmark. John had a special fondness for his favorite dog, a Pomeranian named Gizmo.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 46 years Twila Setser, of Bellville; daughter and son-in-law Heidi and Scott Herrick, of Avon Lake; son and daughter-in-law John J. and Rumi Setser, of Bellville; grandchildren Kabuto Setser, Jessica Stewart, Josh Stewart, Kelli Herrick, and Chris Herrick; a sister Joann Robertson; brothers Fred (Doris) Setser and Steve Setser, all of Mansfield; sisters-in-law Ernestine Setser, Cathy Setser, Mary (Bill) Smith, Joan (Larry) Miller; brother-in-law John (Sondra) Mays; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and close friends.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son Ryan Allen Setser in 1996 at the age of 19; four brothers: Don, Gene, Bruce, and Ronnie Setser; and his in-laws John & Hilda Mays.

Friends may call 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 13, 2016 in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home (81 Mill Road) where a funeral service celebrating his life will be held 11 a.m. Monday. Pastor Michael Rogers will officiate and burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery with military honors performed by American Legion Post #535 of Bellville.

Contributions in his memory to the Jefferson Twp-Bellville Fire Department may be made at the funeral home.
