MANSFIELD — Those looking to become substitute teachers will have the opportunity to meet potential employers on Friday, Aug. 5, from 9 to 11:30 a.m.
Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center is hosting a Substitute Job Fair to amend the shortage of educators in the area.
Lisa Grove, human resource director at the center, said the ESC is trying to generate as much awareness as possible so those who have considered education as a profession can come to the fair.
“Our intent is to help in recruiting in our district; There is definitely a shortage of teachers. We have a shortfall of subs in the area.”
The job fair will consist of 16 area representatives who will be available to speak to interested persons and take their resumes. All substitute teachers must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
As part of the Substitute Teacher Fair, attendees can use onsite computers to log on and apply for a substitute teacher license through the Ohio Department of Education. For a separate fee, fingerprinting services will available that morning, as well as BCI/FBI background checks. Both are required for the substitute license.
All substitute teachers are encouraged to add their names and contact information to Mid-Ohio ESC’s Substitute Teacher List for $20. This list is distributed to Mid-Ohio ESC client and member districts to use as a resource.
For a $10 charge, Mid-Ohio ESC is offering an afternoon professional development session for substitute teachers from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Participants can listen to a panel discussion and question/answer session conducted by local teachers on “What Every Substitute Teacher Should Know.”
Other topics include information about classroom technology tools, school safety and working with diverse learners.
