Fred C. Leone

Fred C. Leone, 93, of Galion and formerly of Silver Spring, Maryland, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Magnolia Terrace in Galion.

Born Aug. 3, 1922 in New York City, he was the son of Salvatore and Anna (Regalbuto) Leone. He married Elizabeth “Betty” (Spencer) Leone on Oct. 15, 1945 and she preceded him in May of 2003. 

He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Fred earned his PhD from Purdue University and was Executive Director of American Statistical Association in Washington D.C. He previously was a professor at the University of Iowa.

Fred was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galion, Nativity Parish Church in Washington, D.C. and Christian Life Communities. He enjoyed traveling the globe and making memory books for himself.

He is survived by children Charles Leone, of South Bend, Indiana, Elizabeth Leone (Rene Cisneros), of Fresno, California, Peter (Diane Grieg) Leone, of Rockville, Maryland, Frank (Loida) Leone, of Sterling, Kansas, Joseph (Barbara Berns) Leone, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Larry (Beth) Leone of Galion and Lucy (Brian) Clark of Medford Lakes, New Jersey; 21 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by twin infant sons and brothers Frank Leone and Peter Leone.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 135 North Liberty Street, Galion, Ohio 44833 with Father Paul Fahrback as Celebrant. Burial will be in Garden of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, Maryland at a later date.

Full military honors will be conducted by the Galion Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities in care of the funeral home.
