ONTARIO – The city of Ontario has a new queen.
Saturday evening, on the stage of Ontario Middle School’s auditorium, Kamryn Yahney earned the Miss Ontario crown.
Yahney was crowned after rounds of competition including a talent portion, modeling evening wear, and answering an on-stage question. Evening wear was provided by Bridal by B, and casual wear was provided by BEHumble.
The daughter of Deana Fanello and Mick Yahney, Kamryn Yahney is a junior at Ontario High School. She is involved in volleyball, basketball and track, as well as Key Club, student council, 4-H and yearbook.
Yahney’s involvement in three sports is what she chose to highlight as her talent, performing a fitness routine to the song, “Eye of the Tiger.” Then, she surprised the audience with a rendition of the song “Cups” from the movie “Pitch Perfect.”
Other talents of the night included baton twirling, singing, reciting the numbers of Pi, a comedy routine, and dance. Ontario Mayor Randy Hutchinson expressed his appreciation of all the contestants.
“The talent here tonight shows what Ontario is all about,” he said.
Other accomplishments of Yahney’s include the scholar athlete award, merit roll, a first-year varsity athlete and a district track qualifier. She is also a two-year class representative, captain of the JV volleyball team, and loves to snowboard.
Another love of Yahney’s is meeting new people, though she confessed during her on-stage question that what makes her blush is when people give her unexpected compliments. She also loves being around kids, which will come in handy as she hopes to major in education in the future.
Miss Ontario 2015 Ashley Blevins passed her crown along to Yahney on Saturday. Blevins is a senior at Ontario High School, and hopes to attend The Ohio State University and major in pre-med to become an anesthesiologist.
“I enjoyed the opportunity to meet all of the people who make our community the amazing place it is, and to be able to witness new businesses come to Ontario that make this city even better,” Blevins said. “Miss Ontario has given me the confidence that I couldn’t dream of a year ago. For that I will forever be grateful.”
Second runner-up of the Miss Ontario pageant was junior Maddie Payne, and first runner-up was junior Brianna Carmack.
