MANSFIELD– Bryce Luckie and his friends relish the chance to entertain people. It’s been that way since high school.
Luckie’s goal is to make as much music as possible and create a good time for those around him. He’s taken a step in the direction by getting a song on iTunes.
Four years ago, Luckie authored a song, “Team Low Standards” or TLS as he said it is known among his former classmates at Madison High School.
“It was actually a pretty successful song,” Luckie said. “People were actually messing with this song. People actually gave attention for that song.”
The song, put on YouTube, gained 800 hits its first week, but was taken down due to its content.
“That was the first time I had put something on YouTube,” he said. “And I had never had anything that successful. Some people downloaded the song (from YouTube), and they still talk about it.”
“It puts people in a good mood. That’s what music is all about. You want to be able to catch a vibe off the sound.”
With “Illuminate,” Luckie and his crew are looking to make a splash again. But this time, instead of hits on YouTube they want to make money.
The song, available on Spotify and iTunes, is about Luckie’s past relationships.
“I went to Cleveland State, and while I was up there she lived here (Mansfield) we went through our troubles the whole year. I always told (the girlfriend), ‘I’m going to write a song about you.’ While we were good, for a short period of time, I started writing this song.
“That ended up being the first part of ‘Illuminate.’ It’s completely dedicated to her.”
Luckie said the relationship fell apart and the song bemoans that scenario, quoting the movie, “The Notebook.”
Because of the emotion and lyrics in his new single, Luckie said he expects people at any point of a relationship to connect with the song.
“I’m sure they’ve had their tough times and I’m sure they’ve had their feelings toward a person. I’d like to be able to connect. That’s what music is all about. I want people to think, ‘Yeah, I know what he’s feeling. That’s what I feel when I’m in love. I don’t want you to find anybody that is better than me.’”
Luckie said he thinks he could make a career out of music. As a singer, a rapper and a designer of his own backtracks, he feels following dreams and believing in dreams is important.
“You could have the craziest dream in the world. Like, if you say I want to live on Mars,’ I’ll believe you. I believe you could probably make it happen.” the artist said.
Jordan Wurthmann, a friend since grade school and Luckie’s manager, said they have been trying to produce material since October of 2015.
“We’ve gone through a lot of stuff, and ideas have been coming and going. We definitely put a lot of hard work throughout and we’ve spent money for stuff we didn’t have.
“For us to be able to get a song on iTunes is amazing. To actually get a song on iTunes, it’s (nearly) impossible. You can’t just go up to them and say, ‘I want you to give you my song. Would you put it out for me?”
Wurthmann said he went through a company to help with the process.
“They put us out on 32 different platforms,” Wurthmann said.
Luckie and his friends said they will expand on “Illuminate” adding more songs to an album they are calling “Illumination.”
