MANSFIELD — The Jared Mansfield Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution presented three scholarship awards over the weekend at Gorman Nature Center.

Jenna Purvis, a Crestview graduate, received a $300 scholarship and certificate from Jared Mansfield Chapter DAR. She will be attending The Ohio State University-Mansfield this fall to become an Agricultural Education Teacher.

Her activities include FFA, National Honor Society, softball, soccer, concert and marching band, student section leader, Young Leaders Institute of Richland Co., volunteers at her church and various area events. She works at White Farms, LLC. Jenna is the daughter of Steve and Kelly Purvis.

Emily Donahue also received a $300 scholarship and certificate from Jared Mansfield Chapter DAR. Donahue is an honors nursing student at the Ashland University Dwight Schar College of Nursing. She is pursuing a career as a certified Critical Care Nurse.

Emily is a member of Ashland University Honors Program, currently working on her Honors Capstone Project. She’s been the Deans list for five semesters, is a Peer Mentor for Honors & Nursing Program, a member of Sigma Theta Tau and Alpha Lambda Delta and also a member of the Ontario Christian Church. Emily works at Outback Steakhouse. She  is the daughter of Scott and Karen Donahue.

Julia Newberry, a Lexington graduate, also received a $300 scholarship and certificate from Jared Mansfield Chapter DAR. Newberry will be attending the Ashland University Dwight Schar College of Nursing this fall and plans to become a flight nurse.

Her activities include National Honor Society, student council, varsity swim team, Drama Club, Spanish Club, Homecoming and Prom committee, volunteering at her church and Toy Time. Julia works at Johnson Brother’s and also has a summer job as a lifeguard at Clearfork Pool. she is the daughter of Jodi Newberry.

The DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children.
