MANSFIELD — The Richland County Humane Society is seeking inividuals willing to foster nursing, pregnant or litters of kittens during the suspension of its services.
Director Missy Houghton said the foster parents would need to be financially responsible for supplies and food for the cats while in their care. But approved medical expenses would be covered by the shelter.
“We ask that they keep the kittens until they are 8- to 12-weeks-old or until they can go to one of our partners,” Houghton said. “Those looking to adopt kittens will be asked to feed the animals with a kitten formula called ‘Kitten Glop.’
“It’s made with all stuff that can be found at the store, and the kittens love it.”
The agency currently has three kittens “dumped in a box outside of the building,” Houghton said. She thinks they would benefit socially from being kitty sat.
Also an expecting mother, Shade, is available for fostering.
Houghton said those who apply will be kept on file for when more urgent-care needing cats are taken in.
Though the agency is suspending its services, it has decided to keep previously made June appointments.
To become a foster parent for the cats, one must fill out an application found on the website.
