Joseph J. "Joe" Erhart

Joseph J. “Joe” Erhart, 101, of Mansfield, died Friday, May 13, 2016 at Good Shephard Nursing Home in Ashland. Born May 22, 1914 in Richland County, Ohio, he was the son of Martin and Christina (Wald) Erhart.

He was a 1932 graduate of Madison High School and was proud of the fact that he attended all of his class reunions. He retired from Tappan Company in 1976 where he worked as an Assembly Inspector and prior to World War II, he had been an Air Warden of East Mansfield and also worked as a Barber. Joe was a member of Mansfield Baptist Temple, the Masonic Lodge #690 Marquis Lodge and was a former President of the Tappan Union. 

Joe was an excellent provider for his family and could do anything he put his mind to. He enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, traveling and was a very patriotic man.

He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Baker of Mansfield; two sons, Joseph O. (Cassandra) Erhart and William Erhart both of Mansfield; seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and many good and faithful friends. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris M. Porter Erhart; a son, Michael D. Erhart; four brothers, Martin, William, Carl and Fred Erhart; and four sisters, Eva Fuhrer, Julia Dapper, Christine Johnson and Katherine Erhart.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Mansfield Baptist Temple conducted by Pastors Mel Hobson and Robert J. Kurtz. Burial will follow in Lantz Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio or Mansfield Baptist Temple Bus Ministry.
