MANSFIELD — Corner HideOut Bar’s liquor license has not been renewed, according to Law Director John Spon.

At the Mansfield City Council meeting on Tuesday, Spon said he was recently notified of the Ohio Division of Liquor Control Corner’s decision to not renew the bar’s liquor license. He said this action should improve the safety of the area where the bar is located at 189 Wood St., across from OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital.

In December, council passed a resolution that formally objected to the renewal of the bar’s liquor permit following a number of safety concerns.

The resolution stated the Corner Hideout had the highest call volume in the third quarter of 2015 of any bar in the city with over 20 calls in the quarter, adding that such calls often required a multi-unit response from the Mansfield Police Department.

“We had a very candid meeting with the purported owner that’s running that business and they were advised that they could appeal any decision,” Spon said. “After our very candid discussion with them, for whatever reason, they decided they would simply not pursue to renew the permit.”

Spon said the bar has since closed but was uncertain of what will become of the property.
