SHELBY – Residents of Shelby and the surrounding areas now have better access to healthcare with the official opening of the Shelby Health and Wellness Center, an affiliate of Third Street Family Health Services.

The new location at 31 E. Main St. in Shelby hosted its grand opening on Monday morning, complete with raffles, giveaways and guided tours of the facility. Shelby Mayor Steve Schag called the center a great enhancement to Shelby’s downtown district.

“We’re so excited about the impact it will have socially for the citizens of our city and what this facility will bring to the citizens of Shelby and Richland County,” Schag said. “Plus we have the wonderful side impact of the economic benefit.”

According to Chief Operating Officer Nicole Williams, the addition of the Main Street location in Shelby brings Third Street Family Health Services’ locations up to seven, including an OBGYN office that recently opened at OhioHealth Shelby Hospital. The Shelby Wellness Center will host both medical and dental providers, as well as an office for Catalyst Life Services.

Catalyst in Shelby

“We looked at our Mansfield patients and we noticed a lot of our patients were coming from Shelby, Plymouth and Willard,” Williams said. “We thought Shelby would be a good in-between spot so patients didn’t have to drive all the way to Mansfield. We’re always looking at ways to eliminate barriers for patients and how we can get them to actually come in to the doctor.”

Shelby Dental providers include Dr. Scott Murdock, DDS and Catherine Alt, RDH. The dental department offers dental care for any age group and utilizes the latest technology in digital radiography. Hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays.

In addition, Shelby Medical providers include Dr. Dipali Desai, and certified nurse practitioner David Etzel. The medical department consists of physicians and nurse practitioners providing primary care to all ages from birth to retirement. Hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Mondays, and 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Walk-ins are welcome.

Dental Center

Williams noted that special attention is given to making medical and dental health care affordable and accessible for all patients at the Shelby Health and Wellness Center.

“We’re set up so we can see anyone, whatever type of insurance you have we will accept you,” she said. “We offer a sliding fee based on your income level, so you could pay as little as $20 for medical or $30 for dental.

“We accept any Medicaid or Medicare. And we’re great with referrals, we make sure we work with people who also work on our sliding fee scale.”

Richland County Commissioner Marilyn John shared that talks of creating the Shelby Health and Wellness Center first began with CEO Jared Pollack while she was the mayor of Shelby.

“Coming here brings back memories, and with the impact this will have on the health and well-being of so many people, we’re so excited to have you here,” John said.

Williams said she hopes the center will continue to thrive as they serve the citizens of Shelby and Richland County.

“The goal is to take care of the citizens here,” she said. “We really want to help the person as a whole.”
