MANSFIELD — The Mansfield Youth Theatre will present an all-student production of Les Miserables School Edition on the stage of the Renaissance Theatre on April 15 at 7 p.m., April 16 at 2:30 p.m. & 7 p.m., and April 17 at 2:30 p.m.
Les Misérables School Edition is an abridged version of the musical by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, based on the epic novel by Victor Hugo. Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables School Edition is a story of heartbreak, passion, and the resilience of the human spirit, that has become one of the most celebrated musicals in theatrical history.
Featuring a timeless score and the beloved songs “I Dreamed A Dream,” “On My Own,” “Bring Him Home,” and “One Day More,” Les Misérables School Edition packs an emotional wallop.
In 19th century France, Jean Valjean is released from years of unjust imprisonment, but finds nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. He breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life, initiating a life-long struggle for redemption as he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe Valjean can change his ways.
Finally, during the Paris student uprising of 1832, Javert must confront his ideals after Valjean spares his life and saves that of the student revolutionary who has captured the heart of Valjean’s adopted daughter.
