MANSFIELD — Teams from Lexington and Crestview were among the winners at the Winter Elementary, Middle School Academic Challenge, sponsored by the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center.

Thirty-six teams from elementary and middle schools in Richland, Crawford, Ashland, Morrow, Seneca and Wayne counties participated in the event.

Schools participating included Ashland, Ashland Christian, Colonel Crawford, Crestview, Discovery, Galion, Lexington, Madison, Mansfield City, Mount Gilead, Northwestern, Ontario, Plymouth-Shiloh, Sacred Heart (Shelby), Shelby City, St. Bernard’s (New Washington), St. Mary’s (Mansfield), St. Peter’s, Tiffin and Wooster.

Wooster Middle School took first place with team members Rheanna Velasquez, Anna Nacci, Will Stansifer, Olivia VanSickle, Adria Lemmon and Sophia VanSickle.

Crestview academic challenge runners-up

Crestview Middle School took second place with team members Kyver Farr, Logan Smith, Brook Campbell and Isaac Littlefield.

The sixth grade winning team from Wooster Middle School included Zach Keating, Hayden Michel, Ashton Dunlap, Seth Opatz, Molly Snyder, Justin Parks. 

Second place for sixth grade was Crestview Middle School with team members Tanner Moore, Tyler Wheeler, Dawson Hale and William Hummel.

Cougars' challenge team

Elementary school students in grade 4 will compete in the Academic Challenge again on Thursday, March 17, at 5:30 p.m.  There will be final competitions on May 16 and 17.

Fourth grade teams compete May 16 beginning at 5:30 p.m. Seventh and eighth grade teams compete May 17 during the school day and fifth and sixth grade teams start at 5:30 p.m. All the events are held at Mid-Ohio ESC.
