ONTARIO — Local talent was on display at Richland Mall on Friday during the sixth annual “Bringing the Elements Together Art and Talent Exhibition.”
Numerous individuals supported by Richland Newhope had the opportunity to showcase their creativity and artistic expression.
“This event not only gives those we support a chance to showcase their abilities, it also provides an opportunity to involve the entire community in an awareness month activity,” said Jane Imbody, Richland Newhope’s director of community relations.
The exhibition featured various crafts and artwork, including paintings, photography, pottery and jewelry. There were performances by the Richland Newhope Dance Troupe, the Sparkles cheerleaders and several vocalists and musicians.
The event also featured a cake decorating demonstration, informational displays, a coloring page station, simulated disability awareness activities and two artists — Raymond Shaw and Joe Hill — doing portrait sketches.
Shaw said he enjoys sketching portraits, despite how challenging it can be. He creates many pieces of artwork, which are on display and available for purchase at the Element of Art Gallery in downtown Mansfield.
Hill, like Shaw, said he likes doing artwork.
“I tried to play piano, but art comes to me easier, Hill said. “It’s my thing to do.”
Kathy Castelvetere (K.C.) was also at the event to distribute information about CARE (Club for Animal Respect and Education).
Castelvetere said the goal of this group is to help raise awareness and promote education about proper animal care. The organization also supports local animal shelters and rescues through fundraisers and donations.

Bringing the Elements Together was sponsored by Richland Newhope, Element of Art and Richland Mall.
Two more Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month activities are scheduled for this month.
Richland Newhope will hold its 15th annual Community Awareness Day on March 17. During that event, two dozen community leaders representing businesses and organizations in Richland County will be involved in a half-day “try on a disability” program.
On March 31 at 6 p.m., the Richland Newhope Dance Troupe will perform its first recital at the Renaissance Theatre. The public is invited to attend this free event.
