Dessie Jones, 72, passed away Friday, March 11, 2016 in Ohio Health MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born Sept. 14, 1943 to parents William Russell and Dovie Mae (Hamm) Henderson in Olive Hill, Kentucky. On Dec. 23, 1961, she married Robert E. Jones. They shared 54 years of marriage and together raised four children.
Dessie dedicated her life to making a wonderful home for her husband and children. From 1995 to 2008 she and Robert worked for Tamarac Apartments in Willoughby. The past seven years of Dessie’s life revolved around caring for her husband whom she so dearly loved.
Dessie, with her husband Robert, loved to go fishing and played card games with friends almost every weekend. They also enjoyed gambling and traveling to area casinos. Dessie liked reading novels and listening to country music (especially The Heartbroke Band from Mansfield which includes some family friends).
But above all, she cherished spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and never missed their sports games and activities.
She is survived by children Jackie (Glen) Barber, Susan Heil, Cindy (Russ) Elliott, and Robert Jones, Jr.; grandchildren Nicole (Byron) England, Glen Alan Barber, Jr., Christopher Barber, Joshua Barber, Chaz Elliott, Tanner Elliott, and Kellie (Bruce) Kardotzke; great-grandchildren Race Heil, Jared England, Gracie England, and Jackson Kardotzke; brothers Joe (Sue) Henderson and Sherman Henderson; and very close friends Larry Perkins and Dale & Diane Roberts.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers Isaac Henderson, Ivan Henderson, and Carl Henderson; sister Inez Hall; and son-in-law Phillip Heil.
The family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 14, 2016 in the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home (formerly Finefrock’s) where a funeral service celebrating her life will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday. Celebrant Jerry Wilson will officiate and lunch will follow.
