Shirley A. Scherer, 77, of Westerville and former Galion resident passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at her residence.
She was born December 20, 1938 in Galion and was the daughter of Edward and Vivian (Mattocks) Yunker.
On September 14, 1957, Shirley married Glen D. Scherer and they enjoyed 56 years of marriage until his passing on April 13, 2014.
She is survived by her three children, Pamela (Joel) Kratzer of Westerville, Cynthia (Brad) Smith of Miamisburg, Stephen (Maria) Scherer of Westerville; eight grandchildren, Jessica (Jason) Manly, Laura (Kurt) Marks, Brenton Kratzer, Ryan (Nikki) Smith, Adam Smith, Chad Smith, David Scherer and Andrew Scherer; three great-grandchildren Alexa & Quin Manly, Luke Marks and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother Thomas Yunker and a sister Janis Yunker.
Shirley was a 1956 graduate of Galion High School and attended The Ohio State University. She was a lifetime Galion resident until she and Glen moved to Westerville in 2002. Shirley was a member of the Ascension Lutheran Church in Columbus and Trinity Lutheran Church in Galion. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and serving on the church altar guild. Shirley worked 22 years at the First National Bank which became the National City Bank in Galion where she worked in various capacities from teller, bookkeeper and loan officer. Shirley later worked at the Marion Bank where she was a vice-president and office manager. She served on the Galion Chapter of the American Red Cross board of directors, enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid reader. Her greatest joy in her life was her grandchildren and spending time with her family.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833. A funeral service will be held Friday, March 11 at 10:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 291 N. Union St., Galion with Pastor Ann Pairan officiating. Burial will be in Crawford County Memory Gardens, Crestline.
