Glenn Leroy Maglott Sr. went home to be with the Lord Monday, March 7, 2016 from Hospice House in Ashland. He was 87 years old.
He was born May 29, 1928 in Mansfield to parents John & Flossie Lucille (Armstrong) Maglott. After he was graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1946, he proudly served his country by joining the US Army where he fought during the Koran War. He was the company carpenter and a military policeman with the 728th Battalion. Notably, during his service abroad he built a church in Korea using only hand tools.
Growing up farming with his dad, Glenn learned the value of hard work as a young boy. At only eight years old he learned to drive and began a lifelong fascination with automobiles. In later years he restored Model A and Model T Fords, and amassed a collection of more than 20 antique tractors (including each of the Farmall letter series). He enjoyed showing off his collection at the Bellville Fair.
Glenn was a construction expert. By age 22 he had already built three houses and the Army deferred his draft for him to finish the last one. After returning home, he was self-employed with his brother Harold; the duo built many houses in the Mansfield and Bellville area over 16 years. Glenn later worked 22 years for the R G Beer Corporation before starting his own construction company with his son in 1987: Glenn Maglott Builders, Inc. He was a charter member of the Carpenters Local Union #735, and he built many homes for his family. Much of his work can be seen on buildings all over Richland County.
Glenn accepted the Lord right out of high school. He was the superintendent over construction of the First Church of the Open Bible in Mansfield and became a lifelong member. He played trombone in the orchestra, served as song leader and Sunday school teacher, and held the position of Sunday School Superintendent for many years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 5 years Ve Dora Thompson of Mansfield; son Glenn, Jr. & Karen Maglott of Mansfield; granddaughter Carli & Douglas Mitchell of Lucas; brother James & Joyce Maglott of Dayton; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
In addition to his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Alice Joann (Bowman) Maglott in 2008; and siblings Harold Maglott, Arthur Maglott, Florence Norwood, Elma Means, and Alice Ady.
Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2016 in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at First Church of the Open Bible, 1150 Rayfield Drive in Mansfield. Rev. Harold Ady, Jr. and Rev. Dr. John Freeman will officiate and burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery with military honors performed by American Legion Post #535 of Bellville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to First Church of the Open Bible or Hospice of North Central Ohio may be made at his services.
