Known to all as a generous and giving woman, Betty Jane Potts gave more of herself to others than she ever expected in return.
She has received her reward as Betty went home to be with the Lord Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. She was 85.
She was born December 21, 1930 to parents Harold & Dorothy (Grilliot) Braun in Sidney. After Betty was graduated from Holy Angel High School in Sidney, she graduated from business college.
On July 28, 1951, she married William “Bill” Potts and together they spent 64 wonderful years together. Accomplished ballroom dancers, Betty and Bill both enjoyed giving lessons on how to ballroom dance as instructors at the Jimmy Rawlins Dance Studio in Columbus.
Betty & Bill were faithful members of Hilltop Community Church for 37 years, where she worked as a secretary for 6 years. Later they became members at Diamond Hills Baptist Church.
She worked as an executive secretary at Richland Bank and Pittsburgh Plate Glass and as a receptionist at Tim Davis Chiropractic. Her favorite job by far was selling Avon because it allowed her to get out, talk to and meet new people which is what she enjoyed about it most.
In spare time, she took pleasure in many things including bowling, knitting and crafting hobbies. But above all, Betty cherished reading the Scripture and singing in the choir.
She is survived by her husband Bill Potts; daughters Dottie (Michael) Karst, Donna Potts and Janice Dudley; grandchildren Michael Karst Jr. and his fiancé Jen Branam; great-grandchildren Desirae and Caleb Branam; sister Janet Moritz; brother Bill (Marilyn) Braun and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents.
The Potts family will receive friends Friday, March 11, 2016 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Saturday, March 12, 2016 from 10-11 a.m. at Diamond Hills Baptist Church, 647 South Diamond Street, Mansfield where the funeral service honoring Betty’s life will begin immediately at 11 a.m. Pastor Christopher Thomas will officiate. Burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery.
