Paul J. Hibar, 83, of Mansfield, passed away early Tuesday morning, Feb. 9, 2016, at Signature Health Care of Galion, Ohio. He was born May 3, 1932, in New Eagle, Pennsylvania, to the late Richard and Anna (Szalankiewicz) Hibar.

Paul had previously lived in Shelby for 44 years, before moving to Mansfield. He retired from Ohio Steel Tube after 33 years of service. Paul was a member of Mansfield First Assembly of God and a former member of Shelby Church of God. He was a member of the American Legion Post #243 in Galion.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1953-1955. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and horses. While vacationing in Arizona, he especially enjoyed gold prospecting. A family man at heart, he truly enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Jean (Link) Hibar; five children, Paula Dennis (Bob Chase), of Shelby, Karen (Edward) Sheridan, of Mansfield, Steven (Mary Beth) Hibar, of Erie, Colorado, Eric (Terry) Hibar, of Cardington, Ohio, and Andrea (Dave) Ensley, of Mansfield; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard (Claire) Hibar, of Bristol, Pennsylvania, and Donald (Beverly) Hibar, of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania; cousin, Robert (Donna) Nemec, of Monongahela, Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Ann Hibar.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd. The funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Mansfield First Assembly of God, 1000 McPherson St., Mansfield. Pastor Terry Garrett and Rev. Rick Wiseman will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
