GALION — Todd Roston has been selected the 2015 District 6 Girls Track and Field Coach of the Year by the Ohio Association of Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches.
Roston was selected for the honor from among all divisions in the district. District 6 is comprised of Erie, Sandusky, Seneca, Huron, Crawford, Richland and Wyandot counties.
“I found out about the award right before Christmas,” Roston said. “I called a guy about purchasing a pole vault pit, and he told me congratulations for winning the award. I talked to Mr. Baughn the next day and he told me about the award.”
Roston’s girls’ track and field teams have achieved district, regional and state championships the last several years, including a state championship in the 4X100 meter relay during the 2014 State Track and Field Championships.
“It is a great honor and it shows that we have built a nice program here,” Roston said. “I also think it shows that we have a lot of great athletes and assistant coaches who have done really well and achieved some great things.
“In reality, this award should go to Colby Bright (Jumps and Sprints), Michael Moore (High Jump, Distance), John Anich (Distance), Brent Tyrrell (Throws), Jamie Valentine (Hurdles) and several other volunteer assistants that we have had the past three years because these people play a big role in the day to day operations and do a great job preparing our athletes to achieve success.”
The success of the girls’ track and field program the last several years can be attributed to great coaches, great athletes and great community support.
“To have a successful program in any sport it takes a great community, and we have had a ton of support from parents, local businesses, and the school administration to help us get to this point,” Roston said. “I would just like to thank everyone for supporting the track and field program and hopefully we can continue to make the community and school proud.”
