Richard W. Burkhart, 83, of Lexington, passed away Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital.

He was born to Wilford and Eva (Steenrod) Burkhart on July 24, 1932, in Mansfield, Ohio.

Richard retired from the United States Postal Service after 38 years of service. He was a member of Moose Lodge #2511 in Lexington. A generous man, he enjoyed being with his family. Fishing, boating and traveling were favorite activities.

He is survived by his brother, Robert (Pricilla) Burkhart, of Phoenix, Arizona; a daughter-in-law, Sandra K. Burkhart, of Delaware, Ohio; best friends, Kate and Terry Grupe, of Lexington; extended family friends, Beth and Holly Carns, both of Lexington; and many dear relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol E. Burkhart on March 24, 1999; sons, Mark A. Burkhart on May 2, 2008, and Brian B. Burkhart on Jan. 13, 2012; and his parents.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Mansfield Memorial Park with Chaplain Chris Mason officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Moose Lodge #2211, Ladies Auxiliary Children’s Fund, 70 Plymouth St., Lexington, Ohio, 44904.
