SHELBY, Ohio – In today’s version of Richland Source’s Future Forecast Series, Shelby Mayor Steve Schag previews community and economic developments for the city in 2016:
Several exciting developments are on the horizon for 2016. It is still our stated goal to bring back electric power generation to the city of Shelby – in the form of peak shaving generation with gas generators.
We just hired a full-time Environmental Health Director/Sanitarian, whom I believe will make our Shelby City Health Department more visible, vibrant and valuable to our community. In connection with the well being of our community, we are anticipating the opening of the Shelby Health & Wellness Center at 31 E. Main St..
The Kehoe Center and North Central State College are looking forward to a banner year in 2016. Student population and participation is going the right direction for sure.
The year 2016 may be the year when professionally modeled proposals come to the city of Shelby to mitigate flooding issues we have faced for years. Judge Jon Schaefer and our Municipal Court Probation Department is diligently working to establish our own Drug Treatment Court as an effective way to deal with drug offenders.
We are well aware that the existing businesses and industries in Shelby are the driving forces behind the quality of life issues so important to a city of our size. From all indications these entities are on stable ground, and we aim to do all we can to facilitate their sustainability and future expansions in the year ahead.
I also believe that if we can continue to tell our story about what we have to offer as a full service municipality, we can anticipate job creation and economic growth in the year ahead. All in all we have good reason to look forward to a year of positive momentum and progress.
