MANSFIELD — Andrew Westfield has been itching to go sledding. Tuesday, the 10-year-old finally got his chance.
“He wanted to come Sunday,” said Bob Entenmann, Westfield’s grandfather. “And I said, ‘I think it’s going to be a little bit too slushy,’ so first thing this morning he said, ‘Let’s go sledding!'”
The snowfall that blanketed the area on Tuesday made for ideal conditions to partake in winter activities like sledding.
Westfield, a student at Lucas Elementary School, said he was excited to have his first snow day of the school year. To celebrate, he and his grandpa took a trip to one of their favorite spots — Liberty Park in Mansfield.
“He likes to come here when the snow is on the ground every year,” Entenmann said. “We’ve been doing it for I don’t know, five years, six years.”
Members of the Jarrell family could also be found at Liberty Park for some fun in the snow.
Lisa Jarrell was accompanied by her son, Jeremiah, and daughter, Gabriella. Lisa said her children both wanted to build a snowman, noting Gabriella wanted to make “Olaf” from the movie “Frozen.”
According to the National Weather Service of Cleveland, there’s a slight chance of snow showers before 10 p.m. tonight in Mansfield. The forecast is mostly cloudy, with a low around 5 degrees and wind chill values as low as -10 degrees.
