MANSFIELD, Ohio — A Madison Township resident was arrested Wednesday night in connection with Tuesday’s robbery at the KeyBank on Ashland Road.
According to a press release, detectives from the Richland County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit received a tip on Wednesday that led them to a residence in Madison Township.
The FBI also received a similar tip at about the same time and contacted the Sheriff’s office, who were already at the suspect’s residence.
The suspect, whose identity was not released pending charges, was not home when detectives arrived. A coordinated effort and investigation between Sheriff’s detectives and FBI agents located the suspect in the area of First and Mulberry streets in Mansfield.
The female suspect was arrested without incident.
Authorities stated that evidence was recovered during the investigation, including a small amount of the money taken from KeyBank. The suspect was taken to the Richland County Jail pending charges — which are expected to be filed Thursday morning.
A Richland County Sheriff press release issued Tuesday described the suspect as a white female, approximately 5 feet 6 inches. According to a photograph released to the sheriff’s department, the woman wore a gray winter coat, multi-colored scarf, a purple knitted hat, blue jeans, white tennis shoes and black leather gloves.
Bank employees told authorities the suspect had a raspy voice and handed a note to the teller demanding money. A weapon was not observed. The suspect fled on foot headed out of the bank toward Rite Aid on Ashland Road.
No one was injured during the incident. KeyBank closed following the robbery.
Sheriff Steve Sheldon said detectives received an overwhelming amount of tips and cooperation from the community and praised their efforts in helping law enforcement.
