John Wesley Brown Jr., 72, of Mansfield, passed away Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015 after a brief Illness.
John was born in Crestline, Ohio, May 18, 1943, to John and Phyllis (James) Brown Sr.
John attended Crestline High School, graduating in 1961 after graduating he enlisted in the United States Army where he received an honorable discharge
John was a longtime hairstylist working with his cousin Penny Brown for years and then opening his own hair salon, John’s Hair Fashion on Bowman Street. He met no strangers and shared his wisdom and many stories, while holding many debates.
John was an avid tennis player and baseball enthusiast. He briefly played baseball professionally and always held the bragging rights on his brother, the late William “Gates” Brown. He was employed by Copperweld Shelby Division for 15 years after retiring from the hair care business.
John is survived by three sisters Jeanette G. Walker, of Bucyrus, Ohio, Kathryn “Midget” Canada and Elaine “Lay-Lay” Floyd, both of Mansfield, Ohio; His special lady friend, Ms. Nonia Jackson, of Mansfield, Ohio, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Brown Sr. and Phyllis (James) Brown; two brothers, Wayne (Dickie) Brown Sr. and William James “Gates” Brown.
A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St. The service will be conducted by Reverend Frank Bolden.
