Peter McEwan Black, formerly of Mansfield, passed away Friday, Dec. 18, 2015 in Clark House at Fox Hill Village in Westwood, Massachusetts, following a long illness. He was 89.

The son of the late Robert Blymer and Esther (McEwan) Black and the grandson of Frank Blymer Black, founder of The Ohio Brass Company, Mr. Black was born in Mansfield on Dec. 14, 1926.

He was educated at Western Reserve Academy, Hudson, Ohio; at Princeton University; and at Columbia School of Business in New York. He served in the United State Army Air Force from 1945 to 1947.

During the 1950s, Mr. Black worked on Wall Street as a securities analyst at Blair & Company. In the 1960s and early 1970s he was on the faculty at Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts, and taught courses in accounting and corporation finance. Since then he lived primarily in Boston, although he had a condominium at Brewster on Cape Cod and shared a home in Mansfield with his brother John Black.

He was active for many years at the Boston Center for International Visitors and was a trustee both of his school, Western Reserve Academy, and of Babson College. He loved music and played the piano, and for a long while was an enthusiastic skier.

He was a member of First Congregational Church of Mansfield, although in Boston he regularly attended Trinity (Episcopal) Church in Copley Square. He was a member of the Westbrook Country Club in Mansfield and of the Union Club in Cleveland.

His brother John Black preceded him in death on Oct. 28, 2014.

He is survived by numerous cousins.

Friends may call Sunday, Jan. 10 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. His funeral service will be Monday, Jan. 11 at 1 p.m. in First Congregational Church, 640 Millsboro Rd., Mansfield. The Rev. Bruce Haapalainen will officiate. Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery.
