“I was born July 19, 1921 in Bessemer, PA.” Ella Mae Kemp, 94, died Wednesday, December 9, 2015 surrounded by her family and friends.

Ella Mae was born to the late Walter S. and Diana C. (Whittenberger) Persing. She married Lewis V. Kemp on August 29, 1941 and he preceded her in death on August 8, 2003. They have finally been reunited in Heaven.

Her children always call her the best mother and grandmother. She adored her grandchildren and they meant everything to her. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Galion. Ella Mae and Lewis spent 25 winters in Florida and absolutely loved it. She was a good cook who loved to bake and decorate cakes. Everyone always looked forward to her Christmas cookies and candy. In the last few years, she has enjoyed playing Popp It! on the computer.

Ella Mae is survived by her two daughters Joyce (Aldon) Shearer and Jane Haas both of Galion a son Larry Kemp, who she lovingly called Mr. Perfect, also Galion. She leaves behind 8 grandchildren – Cathy (Jim) Shifley, Kimberly Arter, Synthia (Scott) Wahlstrom, Amy (Ron) Hoffman, Sherrie (Bill) Bowin, Valeria (David) Weir, Denise Kemp and Natalie Kemp, 20 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren with 2 more on the way, her two sisters Louise Dyke, Negley and Betty Dyke, Cincinnati and her best friend Almira Morton of Galion.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis V. Kemp, two grandsons, son-in-law Peter Haas, daughter-in-law Diane Kemp and brother George (Bill) Persing.

Friends may call Sunday, December 13, 2015 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 14, 2015 at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion, with Rev. Dale E. Hilkert, Pastor Andy Grimes and Dr. Richard McCartney officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to HomeCare Matters Home Health And Hospice, Galion in care of the funeral home. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of HomeCare Matters Home Health And Hospice and to Tammy Webber for the care they gave Ella Mae.
