Aubrey E. Hardgrow Jr., 83, of Bucyrus, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015 at his residence. Born June 9, 1932, in West Virginia, he was the son of Aubrey Hardgrow Sr. and Hattie (Clark) Hardgrow.

He was a 1952 graduate of Araroma High School. He then joined the United States Air Force where he served for four years. After his discharge, he moved to Crestline and worked for General Electric as a line supervisor from which he retired.

Aubrey joined the A.M.E. Church in Crestline in the 1950’s where he met and married his late wife, Fredonia on June 1, 1957. He later joined Providence Baptist Church in Mansfield, where he cooked in the kitchen and sang in the choir. He enjoyed reading, mowing the lawn and cooking and did some catering after his retirement. A well-loved man, he loved his family and will be missed by all.

He is survived by a daughter, Tina Hardgrow, of Mansfield; three sons, Sidney Hardgrow, of Mansfield, Andrew Akens and Joseph Akens, both of San Francisco, California; grandchildren, Fredonia Hardgrow and her partner, Shala Crawford, of Bucyrus, with whom he made his home, Maria (Charles) Thompson, of Mansfield, Christina Tucker, of Mansfield, Sidney Hardgrow Jr., of Centerburg, Michelle Akens, of Mansfield, and Katiba Akens, of Mansfield; great grandchildren, Teena, Joseph, Andrew, Tristan, Aidan, Sebastian, Kyran, Brooklyn, Amyra, Aubria and Micah; one great great grandson, Zayden; a brother, Charles Hardgrow; and a host of other loving family members.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Fredonia Hardgrow; two children, Vincent Hardgrow and Sandra Akens; and a grandson, Isiah Hardgrow.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, 2015 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Ontario. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015, at the funeral home conducted by Dr. Thomas C. Hunt. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
