ONTARIO, Ohio — Fence construction is underway for the Maize Memorial Dog Park in Ontario.
The spot is located in Marshall Park across from the large baseball pavilion. It will be open from dawn to dusk and incorporates 2.5 acres of land. It will be the first public dog park in Richland County.
“We were able to put $14K down on the fence to get it started,” said chairman Demrie Alonzo. “We still need another $1,000 on top of what we’ve recently raised to finish paying off the fence.”
Posts have all been put into the ground and cemented. The cement pad for the entrance has been poured and is drying so that the fencing can go in next.
“This is phase one,” Alonzo said. “The fence will be up and the park usable through winter. In the spring we’ll have a Grand Opening and add the plaques to the fences and start adding the other items for Phase II.”
The Maize Memorial Dog Park is a non-profit charity organization with 501c3 status. All donations are tax deductible. Friends of Maize Memorial Dog Park are pulling the project together with fundraising support from businesses and supporters. Money needed for the fencing was raised in less than a year.
