Mylene E. (Studer) Poffenbaugh

Mylene E. (Studer) Poffenbaugh, a long-time Crawford County resident, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Magnolia Terrace in Galion after an extended illness. 

Mylene was born in Orville, Ohio on September 23, 1932. She was the youngest child of Crestline dentist Dr. Walter M. and Arlene (Goller) Studer. Her family moved to the Crestline area when she was a small child and her father opened his dental practice. She graduated from Leesville High School in 1950 and was Valedictorian of her class.

She married Donald W. Poffenbaugh of Crestline on September 15, 1950 in Bellevue, Ohio and was a devoted wife for 62 years until his death in 2012.

The center of Mylene’s life was her family. She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and birdwatching at the family’s small farm in Whetstone Township. She won many award ribbons through the years at the Crawford County Fair for her vegetables, flowers, crocheting projects, and baked goods. She served as an advisor for the Whetstone Hornettes 4-H Club for many years.

Mylene filled in when needed as a cook at Whetstone Elementary School and enjoyed many years of service as a poll worker on Election Day at the Whetstone Township South polling place in New Winchester. She was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church in Bucyrus.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her older brother Kenneth C. Studer of Leesville. 

Survivors who cherish her memory include her sons, Walter E. (Sheila) Poffenbaugh of Willard, Ken C. (Deb) Poffenbaugh of Bucyrus, and daughter Donene S. Poffenbaugh of Mount Gilead; four grandchildren: Eric Poffenbaugh, of Toledo, Meagan (Bryan) Benner of Bloomdale, Andrea Poffenbaugh of Brokensword, and Erin (Matthew) Schnabel of Delaware; seven great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Helen Studer of Leesville, Margery (Bud) Swartz of Attica, Mary (Art) Thompson of Crestline, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home in Crestline from 2-4PM and 6-8PM on Wednesday, September 16, 2015. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 10AM on Thursday September 17, 2015, with SAM Gene Luidhart officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Crestline.

Memorial contributions can be made through the funeral home to Good Hope Lutheran Church, Home Care Matters, Crawford County Meals on Wheels or the Parkinson’s Association.
