Nina R. Underwood

Nina R. Underwood, 92, of Loudonville died Wednesday, August 19, 2015 in Colonial Manor Health Care Center, Loudonville following an extended illness. Nina was born Jan. 8, 1923 in Sistersville, WV and was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Rebecca Jane (Shriver) Sine. She had lived in Loudonville since 1966 coming from Kent. She was the owner and operator of Nina’s Beauty Shop for many years. She was deeply loved and respected by the many beauticians who began their professional careers working and learning from her. Her beauty shop was always the center of ‘information’ in the community and her clients and friends thoroughly enjoyed their visits. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, a former member of the church choir as well as the funeral dinner committee, a former volunteer with Hospice of North Central Ohio, an American Red Cross volunteer, and former member of the Progressive Mothers Club. Nina enjoyed crocheting, knitting and painting, and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan. She was able to play the piano ‘by ear’ without using sheet music and she encouraged all her children and grandchildren from the earliest age to learn to play the piano.

She is survived by her son, Michael D. Underwood of North Ridgeville; four grandchildren: Rebecca (Kevin) Stitzlein McFarland of Columbus, Eric (Kim) Underwood of Houston, TX, Elyse (Greg) Kemmerline of Streetsboro, and Matthew Underwood of Columbus; and one great-granddaughter, Evelyn McFarland. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lionel “Bud” Underwood, a daughter, Charlene Underwood, a son, Jay Underwood, and many brothers and sisters.

A Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2015 in Zion Lutheran Church, Loudonville with Rev. Scott Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Loudonville Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday, Aug. 22 from 4-6 in Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville.
