MANSFIELD, Ohio – Mansfield Chief of Police Kenneth A. Coontz recently released calls for service and crime statistics for six months of 2015, which were compiled by the Records and Data Section of the Mansfield Division of Police.

Offenses reported as crime statistics are determined by the FBI Uniform Crime Report Program and are classified as crimes against persons (violent crime) and crimes against property. The offenses of homicide, rape, robbery, and assault make up the violent crime category. The offenses of arson, burglary, larceny, and auto theft make up the property crime category. Both of these categories are referred to as Part 1 Offenses.

During the six months of 2015, officers responded to a total of 1318 overall Part 1 Offense complaints, which represents a 13.3 percent decrease in overall crime as compared to 1521 offenses during the same period in 2014. 

Officers investigated 752 accidents compared to 689 reported last year, a 9.1 percent increase.
