Alice Lucille Hall

Alice Lucille Hall, 83, of rural Loudonville, died Friday afternoon, July 31, 2015 in Samaritan Regional Health System following a brief illness. Alice was born Jan. 10, 1932 in Ashland County, the daughter of the late Rex Maynard and Frances (Heyde) Long. She was a 1950 graduate of Loudonville High School and a 1953 graduate of The Ohio State University where she was a member of the Women’s Rifle Team. Alice began her teaching career with the Ashland City Schools, was a substitute teacher with the Loudonville-Perrysville Schools while raising her family, returned to full-time teaching with West Holmes High School, Ashland County-West Holmes Career Center and 12 years with the Mohican Youth Camp, all while continuing her work as a dairy farmer on the family farm. 

Alice was an active member of the Loudonville United Methodist Church participating in the church choir, the United Methodist Women, and as a communion steward. She was a 4-H member as a youth and continued her commitment into adulthood becoming a 4-H Advisor. Her additional memberships included the Ashland County Farm Bureau, the Mohican Historical Society, and the Sweet Adeline’s International for Holmes County and the Mt. Vernon Dogwood Blossoms. Alice served many years on the Loudonville Public Library Board of Trustees and one term on the Samaritan Hospital Board. Spare time was not frequent but she managed to knit over 200 sweaters for “Knit for Kids” World Sweater Ministry and enjoyed creative sewing, quilting, crossword puzzles, literature, music, flowers, knitting, baking pies, and feeding hummingbirds and other wild birds. 

She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law: Barb and Walt Burd of Loudonville, Joan and Gary Stauffer of Ashland, and Gail Hall of Loudonville; five grandchildren and spouses: Amy Lynn Stauffer, Jason Alexander (May) Burd, Clare Marie (Ben) Theis, Matthew Oliver (Marissa) Burd, and Daniel James Schrack; and two sisters: Phyllis (James) McClure of Loudonville and Ann (Larry) Brown of Hilton Head, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents.

 Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 5, at 11:30 a.m. in the United Methodist Church, Loudonville, with Rev. Dr. Steven Sullivan, officiating. Burial will be in Loudonville Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, from 5-8 p.m. in Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville. The family request in lieu of flowers memorials be given to United Methodist Church, 124 N.
