MANSFIELD, Ohio — After a late start, Mansfield’s latest addition to the food industry, the Downtown Parlor Market, now offers fresh produce from Ohio farms in Bucyrus, Bellville and Butler.
Owner Michelle Holzmiller said the delay was due to a broken scale, which was repaired earlier this week. As of Wednesday, customers can purchase tomatoes, onions, green peppers, green beans, sweet corn, red skinned potatoes, zucchini, squash, cucumbers, garlic, cantaloupe, peaches and apples.
Due to limited shelf space, Holzmiller said food products will be rotated based on the changing seasons and popularity.
The store also provides meats from Rus-Men Farms in Galion and milk products from Hartzler Family Dairy in Wooster.
Currently on the shelves are products from Columbus, Cleveland, Wooster, and some more local towns like Bellville and Butler. The products range from kettle potato chips, noodles, jams and peanut butters, to driftwood candles and handmade wool hats and scarves by local artists.
Holzmiller said Downtown Parlor Market will hold their grand store opening in August, including a raffle drawing for a vertical herb planter, along with other in-store specials. And, as a permanent policy, if customers ride their bicycle and show their helmet at the cash wrap, they get a 10 percent discount off their purchase.
The market has offered sandwiches, soups, salads and ice cream since June. Holzmiller said the sandwiches and ice cream products are popular lunch items.
“You can get an ‘a la carte’ lunch for under 10 dollars,” said Holzmiller. The sandwiches, soups and salads are prepared by Altered Eats.
“We want to have quality ingredients. So I travel to get the meats (for the sandwiches) and then Anne (from Altered Eats) and I sit down to make a menu together. Then they make them,” said Holzmiller. She buys the turkey and ham from Sugar Valley Meats in Sugar Creek, Ohio.
On Saturday, Downtown Parlor Market’s eight flavors of ice cream from Johnson’s Real Ice Cream in Columbus, four flavors of Italian ice, sorbet, and gourmet ice pops will be available during Neos Dance Theatre’s Ballet at the Brickyard.
Store hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, visit their Facebook page.
