John Baptist Contrascere

John Baptist Contrascere, 82, of Mansfield, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 23, 2015. He was born October 6, 1932, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Nunzio and Rosalia (Sidati) Contrascere.

John graduated from Dayton Bible College. He retired from Shelby Business Forms as a lithographer after more than 30 years of service. A quiet man, he chose his words carefully and wisely when he spoke and listened intently whenever someone else spoke. John married Juanita Vanta on June 1, 1957 and she preceded him in death on May 5, 2014. He treasured his family and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. John enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his family. In his free time, he was an avid reader.

John leaves behind two sons, John Contrascere of Shelby, Ohio, and Steven (Patricia) Contrascere of Brandon, Florida; six grandchildren, Jared, Brittany, Travis (Tara), Nicholas, Morgan and Kayla Contrascere; three great-grandchildren, Laura, Lexi and Brady; three siblings, Dave (Marty) Contrascere, Betty (Dan) Mauritz and Esther (Dr. Amos) Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by six siblings, Sarah Contrascere, Mary Robinette, Sam Contrascere, Russel Contrascere, Rose Manz and Vinnie Caira.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Home, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. Dr. John D. Freeman will conduct the service on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
