A backhoe sits at the end of a long trench designed to cook approximately 8,200 pounds of meat during the 49th Annual Fireman's Ox Roast in Shiloh.

SHILOH, Ohio – More than 8,200 pounds of beef are being prepared for the  49th Annual Shiloh Firemen’s Ox Roast scheduled for Friday, July 24, and Saturday, July 25 in Shiloh on State Route 603.

Early Thursday morning, the more than 4 tons of beef was thrown into a pit that is 6 feet deep, 80 feet long and 4 feet wide, and lighted on fire.

Food will be served each day from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and the famous roast beef sandwiches will cost $3.50. Other food available includes hot dog, baked beans, potato salad, cake, pie and more. Bulk sales of meat, baked beans and potato salad will be available at the fire station on Delaware Street.

The parade will step off at 7 p.m. Saturday in downtown Shiloh.

Other events include the garden tractor pull at 5:30 p.m. Friday, a pedal tractor pull at 11 a.m. Saturday for children ages 3 to 8, and live music from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. both nights, including MidLyfe Crysis on Friday and Just One More on Saturday. Waycraft will present Gospel music from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday. All events are free.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Shiloh-Cass-Bloominggrove Firefighters Association, and will be used toward fire and emergency medical equipment.
