Mary Marie Strouse, 90, of Loudonville, died Wednesday afternoon, July 22, 2015 in Colonial Manor Health Care Center, Loudonville following an extended illness.
Mary was born June 14, 1925 in Springfield, the daughter of the late Isaac Simeon and LeVera Marie (Milburn) Overholser. She was a 1947 graduate of The Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Art, and later earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Wittenberg University after attending the University of Denver and Ohio State for graduate studies. Mary began her teaching career at Barberton for 2 years, Hayesville for 3-1/2 years, and was the Loudonville-Perrysville Schools’ Art teacher for over 31 years, retiring in 1987. She was a Loudonville resident since 1948 and was a member of the Loudonville United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, serving as Treasurer.
Mary was a life member of The Ohio State University Alumni Association, the OSU Ashland County Alumni Club and serving as Secretary for 17 years, a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Assoc., the Loudonville Women’s Club, the Ohio Education Assoc., the National Education Assoc., was a 50+ year member of the Eastern Star, served as Vice President of the Friends of the Library, was a member of the National Guild of De’coupeurs, as well as being a member of the Ohio Valley Chapter of the Society of Craft Designers.
She is survived by her son, Robert Milburn (Jennifer) Strouse of Wooster, her daughter, Lynne Marie (William) Waldron of Dublin, and her daughter-in-law, Cindy Strouse of Loudonville; six grandchildren: Christina Marie (Abram) Cookson, Jennifer Mary Waldron, Matthew Abraham (Ashley) Strouse, Chelsea Lynn Strouse, Logan Robert Strouse, and Landre Jo Strouse; eight great-grandchildren: Alexandria Marie Cookson, Ethan Cookson, Haley Waldron, Kevin Waldron, Aubrey Strouse, Austin Waldron, Elijah Cookson, and Clara Strouse. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 66 years, Dennis Abraham Strouse on Oct. 18, 1989; one son, David Dennis Strouse, one granddaughter, Katherine Lynne Waldron, one great-granddaughter, Lydia Cookson, a brother, Orland Overholser, and a sister, Patricia Nimocks.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 25, at 1:30 p.m. in Loudonville United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Sullivan, officiating. Burial will follow in Loudonville Cemetery.
