MANSFIELD, Ohio — With the beginning of a new school year just a month away, Richland Public Health is urging parents to be sure students are up-to-date on immunizations.
Richland Public Health has scheduled additional Back to School Vaccination Clinics starting at the end of July and into August. These special clinics are in addition to the regularly scheduled Neighborhood Immunization Clinics throughout Richland County. For dates, locations and times see www.richlandhealth.org or call 419-774-8115 for the 24-hour hotline.
The added vaccine clinics are:
· July 31 at Shelby City Hall, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
· August 7 at Richland Public Health (Corley Room), 9 a.m. – Noon and 1 – 3 p.m.
· August 12 at Shelby City Hall, 2 – 7 p.m.
Richland Public Health also has walk-in vaccine clinics from 4 to 7 p.m. on July 27 and August 24.
Health officials are reminding parents of students just starting Kindergarten and those entering 7th grade that certain shots are required:
Kindergarten requires a complete series of Dtap (Diphtheria/Tetanus/Pertussis), polio, chickenpox, Hepatitis B, and MMR vaccinations. Recommended are Hepatitis A and a flu shot.
7th Grade requires the completed series above plus Tdap (Tetanus/Diptheria/Pertussis) or tetanus containing vaccine and one dose of chickenpox vaccine (Varicella). Recommended are HPV, Meningitis, Hepatitis A and a flu shot.
August walk-in clinics at the regularly scheduled Neighborhood Immunization Clinics are:
· August 5 at Lucas Library, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
· August 5 at Mifflin Township Fire Station, 2 – 4 p.m.
· August 12 at Shelby City Hall, 10 a.m. – 12:30 pm and 2 – 4 pm
· August 19 at Shiloh Village Hall 9:30 am – 12 p.m.
· August 19 Plymouth Library, 2 – 4 p.m.
· August 26 Springfield Township Fire Station, 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
· August 26 New Community Temple Church, 2 – 4 p.m.
Parents may also schedule immunization appointments at a time convenient for their schedule by calling the Richland Public Health Clinic: 419-774-4700. The clinic is open until 6 p.m. on Wednesdays.
