CLEVELAND, Ohio—The National Weather Service in Cleveland is reporting a Flood Watch for Thursday, July 9 for Richland and area counties including Ashland, Crawford, Knox and Morrow until noon. An additional 1-2 inches of rain this morning on already saturated ground may cause some flooding.

Does it seem like it has been a wetter than normal June, and now July?

Northern Ohio did receive considerable precipitation in June, but in Mansfield it didn’t break annual records.

“June was an active month across much of northern Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania as several weather systems impacted the region with heavy rainfall. Several climate sites received rainfall on an almost daily basis with Akron-Canton and Youngstown receiving at least a trace of rain on 12 consecutive days and Mansfield receiving at least a trace of rain on 10 consecutive days in the middle of June.”

The report above is taken directly from a release from the National Weather Service in Cleveland and reflects data from its reporting area. But according to their data, June 2015 was not the wettest month in local history.

Mansfield Lahm Regional Airport (MFD) received the fourth highest amount of rainfall in June with a total of 7.44 inches of rain in the Cleveland weather service’s reporting area.

But June 2015 was only the eighth wettest June at Mansfield. Only nine days in the month did not record at least a trace of precipitation at Mansfield where the average June rainfall is 4.75 inches.

The most recent high rainfall in Mansfield history was in 1998 with 7.29 inches. The wettest June in Mansfield, according to the data was in 1947 with a total of 10.27 inches, followed by June 1981 with a total of 10 inches.

It’s going to have to rain a lot more in July to break the top wettest record in Mansfield. In 1992 Mansfield recorded 13.23 inches in July.
