Three exploratory week-long science camps for children in kindergarten through fifth grade will be offered this summer at Springmill Learning Center, 1200 Nestor Drive.

Parents are urged to register children as soon as possible. The deadline is July 6.

Camps will run from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $75 per week.

Instruction will be provided by Mansfield City Schools teachers and Ohio State University-Mansfield faculty. Children will be grouped by kindergarten-first, second-third and fourth-fifth grades.

“Kitchen Chemistry” will be the topic July 20-24. Children will discover the awesome things they can create in their own kitchens such as playdoh, slime and much more. They will experiment to find out why we add ingredients like baking soda or baking powder to baked goods. They will learn to create fun snacks and what it means to be a scientist using items found in their kitchen.

“Newton’s Toy Box” is scheduled July 27-31. This week will be all about Newton’s Laws of Motion. Children will look at forces and motion, how things fly and simple machines. They will play, experiment and invent their way through the week.

“Critters, Creatures and the Great Outdoors” will be Aug. 3-7. Students will enjoy hands-on, minds-on outdoor activities that foster awareness and enjoyment of our natural world. Activities will include forest ecology, stream study, geology and GPS adventures. The week also will include habitat studies, features and flight, animal adaptations and campfire cooking. All activities will be appropriate to grade levels.
