MANSFIELD, Ohio – Farmers’ markets around the area are opening for the season, offering a variety of early produce as well as jams, syrup, and baked goods.

The Downtown Mansfield Farmers’ Market opened May 29. The market is open from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. every Friday on the corner of 4th and Main.

There, patrons can find a variety of crafts, plants, in-season produce, jams, jellies, baked goods, and even Italian Ice.

The Bellville Farmers’ Market kicked off May 16 under new management. Teasha Sprague is now market manager.

The market is held on the Bellville Village Square on state Route 13 every Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon.

The market offers plants, cheese, pet treats, mushrooms, baked goods and seasonal produce. Items will vary as the season progresses.

A new website will keep patrons up-to-date on vendors, items available, and recipes to utilize items purchased.

The Galion NorthSide Famers’ Market opened May 5 in its new location in the city’s Heise Park. The market is open every Tuesday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The market plans to offer items from vendors such as: Heritage Harvest Farm; The Edible Landscapes; Avalon Acres; Our Breezy Acres; That’s My Farmer; Pickwick Farm; Fairview Orchard; Marsh Run Maple Syrup; Scapes by Sarah; 8 Sisters Bakery; Bill’s Bakery; Heavenly Suds Soap; Roseberry’s Homemade; and Waldo Ohio Apiaries.

The most recent market offered jams, radishes, lettuce, and even strawberries, among many other items. The market’s Facebook page keeps patrons abreast of items available.

Holy Trinity Farmers’ Market, located in the parking lot behind Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 525 West Cook Road in Mansfield opened June 9. The market is held every Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m.

All market items are grown locally, and are grown or made by the vendor. No craft or resale items are permitted.

The market offers in-season produce as well as baked goods, jams, jellies, locally produced maple syrup, pancake mixes, plants, and herbs.

Trinity market

The Shelby Farmers’ Market will kick off June 20 in downtown Shelby. The market will be open Saturdays from 9 a.m. until noon, offering a wide variety of crafts, soaps, jewelry, plants, baked goods, and produce, among others.

The North End Farmers’ Market launched June 2 in its new location at the Gateway Resource Center, which is located at 486 Springmill Street (corner of Springmill and Bowman Street) in Mansfield.

The market accepts EBT benefits and is able to double the benefits for Ohio Direction card shoppers (up to $20) for the purchase of fresh produce at the market, thanks to the Fran and Warren Rupp Donor Advised Fund of the Richland County Foundation.

Vendors offer a variety of in-season produce as well as sourdough breads, cookies, biscotti, candies, jams and jellies, herb mixes, blueberry muffins, North End honey, pottery, crafts, scented oils, sprays and incense sticks.

The market will be open every Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Alta Greenhouse Market, located at Alta Florist & Greenhouse, 935 S. Home Road, Mansfield, will open Saturday, June 13. The market will be open every Saturday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., with a variety of produce, baked goods, and other items.
