BELLVILLE, Ohio–Samantha Wander, daughter of Jeffery and Carol Wander of Bellville, Ohio, is the 2015 recipient of the Kingwood Herb Society (KHS) scholarship.
While attending Clear Fork High School, Samantha excelled in horticulture classes and demonstrated teamwork and leadership qualities. As president of her local FFA, her volunteerism included several community service activities which comprised canned food drives, leadership initiatives assisting others in hardship, and educational demonstrations in growing whole grain products and the food chain benefits.
She won several awards at the State and National level for FFA. In addition, Samantha helps on their family farm and works part time at the Mohican Canoe Livery.
Samantha is actively pursuing a degree in Agriculture with an aspiration of becoming a high school educator. She is enrolled for the fall semester ! at the main branch of Ohio State University in Columbus.
Kingwood Herb Society is a not-for-profit organization in its 41st year. A main objective of the members is establishing a scholarship towards education in horticulture. Eligible applicants must be from Richland County or any of the surrounding counties and be at least a high school senior to apply. Candidates must also be registered and accepted in a horticulture-enriched or related degree at a college or technical school.
KHS promotes knowledge and interest in herbs, their history, cultivation and uses through speakers, trips, and tours. Further activities include: Exchanging seeds, plants, ideas, information and assist Kingwood Center when requested. New members are always welcome.
