Theodore Muntan, 93, of Mansfield died Saturday, May 23, 2015. Ted was born on May 20, 1922, in Massillon, Ohio, to Theodore and Patricia Muntan, who came to the States from Romania. He graduated from Mansfield Senior High School and worked at Mansfield Tire & Rubber Company for 37 years before retiring about 2 years before they closed. He was a veteran having served in the Navy during WWII on a submarine as a radioman.
While working at the Tire, he met his wife, Pauline Hollar. They were married on June 22, 1946, and he spent the next years of his life working nights at the Tire, farming their 60 acres, raising cattle and chickens, selling the milk and eggs, and helping to raise their 6 children.
He was a member of the Woods (Possum Run) Golf Course and was also on the golf team for the Tire. For many years he played in various leagues and tournaments. He loved playing golf and has many trophies to prove it, including the trophies he received for being club champion 3 times and both he and Pauline have passed the love of the game onto several of their kids.
His beloved wife, Pauline, died in December 2008. He is survived by his daughters, Pauline Fields (Chalmer), Virginia Muntan, Kathleen Muntan and Nora Lee Muntan all of Mansfield; two sons, Ted Muntan (Diane) of Lucas and Tom Muntan of Mansfield; eight grandchildren, Lisa Carter & Brian Fields both of Texas, Teresa Ellington of Pennsylvania, David Fields of Maryland, Mariann Collmar, Travis Ellington and Kimberly Lindecamp all of Mansfield, and Teddy Muntan of Lexington; 14 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; his brothers, Emile & Willie and his sisters, Mary Hockenberry and Patricia Simmons, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John, and his great grandson, Justice Carter.
According to Ted’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral services.
