MANSFIELD, Ohio – Diagnosed in 2010, at age 20, with fibromyalgia, author Styna Lane said, “I just got it into my mind that I was going to start doing crazy things. I didn’t want my body to limit me.”

Even before the diagnosis, Lane lived life to the fullest. From working as a “Twilight” character look-alike in Forks, Washington to following her favorite band halfway across the country, the Bellville native has no shortage of adventures to draw from in her writing.

Her third book, “Yesterwary,” is based on one of her own experiences. “It was inspired by parasocial relationships. I was sort of obsessing over this one actor fellow,” she said.

Lane noted she is in a committed relationship and has been for almost five years, and after spending hours looking at photos of the celebrity, she realized the folly of her ways.

“I thought, ‘Why am I putting this much energy into this person that doesn’t even know I exist, when the person who loves me is 20 minutes away?’

Then I thought, ‘What would happen if you only loved people who didn’t love you back, and what happens if you run out of love in doing that,’ and then ‘Yesterwary’ happened,” she said.

The book’s synopsis reads, “We fall for neighbors, strangers, celebrities, and gods, but rarely consider the consequences of being so careless with our own hearts. To Demi Harper the thought of running out of love is nothing more than a cautionary tale told by her sister to protect her from heartache. Love isn’t a tangible thing that can be weighed, and to think otherwise would be ridiculous. But the loss of the one person who loves her back proves that it may not be so absurd, after all.”

“Lately people have become more and more obsessed with celebrities and people they don’t know. This is a push to love the people around you, the people who love you back,” Lane explained.

“Pay more attention to the people that matter,” she said.

Of her adventures, Lane noted, “It was fun. I miss doing that kind of stuff.”

Diagnosed with additional issues, 24-year-old Lane now walks with the use of a cane. Still, she refuses to be limited by her body and lets her mind explore the world.

“I started writing as an escape from the confines of my body. It’s mind adventures now,” she said.

“I do spend a lot of time writing. I can’t really do much else,” Lane said.

She added that, though she enjoys it, writing is sometimes hard work. “The only people that say writing is easy are the people that don’t write,” she said.

Lane has released two books previously, “The Energy Room,” and “The Violet Awakening,” both part of the series “The Elementum Trinity.”

She noted that, though her previous books were geared toward young adult readers, “Yesterwary” is for a more mature audience. “It’s not something to read if you like happy endings,” said Lane. “It’s a really dark book.”

Lane is currently finishing the third in “The Elementum Trinity” series, due to be released on Aug. 17. The date is significant to the series as part of the story, and would be recognized by readers. The date is also significant to Lane – it is her late father’s birthday.

Additionally, Lane has three other books in the works, one a sequel to “Yesterwary,” and the other two are stand-alone books.

“Yesterwary” is currently available only in digital format, but will be out in print within the month, Lane said.

More information can be found at her website. All of Lane’s books are available at Amazon.com.

“Lately people have become more and more obsessed with celebrities and people they don’t know. This is a push to love the people around you, the people who love you back,” Styna Lane explained.
