Wilfred Rose

Wilfred Rose, 79, of rural Loudonville, died Wednesday morning, May 20, 2015 in Hospice of North Central Ohio, Ashland. Wilfred was born May 9, 1936 in Olive Hill, KY and was the son of the late Estill and Pauline (Blevins) Rose, and Marie (Blevins) Rose who raised him from age four. He had lived in Ashland from 1962 until 1994, when he moved to Loudonville. He began his career working on a Great Lakes iron ore freighter and ultimately became a boiler operator with Empire Detroit AK Steel in Mansfield for over 30 years, retiring in 1994. During those years he stayed busy farming, gardening, and mushroom hunting. He was a member of the Perrysville Church of God.

Wilfred is survived by his wife, Helen (Popeka) Rose, whom he married April 21, 1956; three daughters: Connie Rose Harvey of Lucas, Rhoda (Carl) Taylor of Loudonville, and Helen Rose Newmeyer of Mt. Vernon; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank (Pam) Rose of West Chester; and five sisters: Jeanetta (Leonard) Thomas of Grayson, KY, Linda (Keith) Hellman and Donna (Ray) White both of Olive Hill, KY, Delores Ann Rose of Hamilton, and Darlene (Bobby) DeBord of Xenia. Those awaiting his arrival in heaven include his parents, his granddaughter, Rosetta Joy Newmeyer, and two brothers, Daniel and Charles Rose.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 23 at 2:30 p.m. in Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville with Tom Nelson of the Perrysville Church of God officiating. Burial will follow in Bird Cemetery, Mt. Vernon. Friends may call Saturday, May 23 from 12:30 until 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
