John W. Black, 90, of Mansfield passed away Tuesday morning May 5, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family following an extended illness.

The son of Allen and Kathryn (Laughman) Black, John was born October 13, 1924 in Middlebourne, Ohio. He was graduated from Old Washington High School. John served in the Navy.

On July 12, 1947 he married Vivian Redd. John was a long time employee of the Tappan Company. John enjoyed sports especially the Cleveland Indians. John was an avid reader and loved history. He enjoyed the outdoors and working in his garden. Above all he loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Vivian Black, daughter Karen Edmiston, sons Kevin and Brian Black; grandsons Jason and Jeffrey Edmiston, granddaughters Jennifer Edmiston, Ashley Black, and Lisa Wilcox; great grandchildren Kaitlyn and Joel Porada and Gabriel Wilcox; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Bernard Black.

The family will receive friends Friday, May 8, 2015 from 2 p.m. – 3.pm. in the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where funeral services will begin at 3 p.m. Pastor Quillie Dasher will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John’s memory to MedCentral Hospice may be made through the funeral home.
